Please be sure to keep up to date with the latest rules and guidelines! This should be updated every other month.
Reminder that these rules are in place to both protect users from misbehaving users, and from misbehaving STAFF as well. We want our staff team to be at it's best behavior even more importantly than anything else.
If you should ever feel uncomfortable with a staff member or believe they are misusing their power PLEASE contact a staff member you feel comfortable talking to about the issue and we will absolutely deal with it. We are here to protect and make sure that you are having a great time here, we are not police officers and we are not enforcers, we do not do things without reasons that aren't made clear to you.

You must be 13 or older to play Cereal Soup.
Behavioral Guidelines (Forum & Game)
1. Asking for personal information on unsolicited terms, especially from those who are underage is strictly prohibited.
2. We allow swearing! Just keep it classy, don't over-use the profanity and don't use it at others in a violent way. When there are few players online, it is allowed more openly & excessively. Basically, if a staff member can say it- so can you. If someone is uncomfortable with the language and asks you to stop or not to say specific words around them- respect their wishes!
3. Spamming is a great way to leave the game! ★ So hoe don't do it
4. Trading/sharing personal information that doesn't belong to you is no good. Only if the person's info that is being shared has given you express consent to share it may you share it.
5. People are responsible for their own accounts.
DO NOT share your account for any reason, regardless if they had permission to share it with you. HOWEVER, if we have good reason to believe that they were hacked, or account robbed, staff must look into the situation. In cases where a member of the household has gained access to your account, change your password. Otherwise please come to a member of staff for help.
6. Staff consequences will vary, but if you feel your punishment was unjustified, please contact an Admin.
7. Arguing with the staff is wrong. BUT, Debating with the staff is alright. (ex. " I don't believe it was okay for you to mute me because I don't think you understood the situation. " Is okay! " I don't deserve to be muted because u sukxc " Is wrong. )
Debating is taking a stance and presenting facts to support your opinion.
Arguing is taking a stance and without using any evidence, intentionally trying to hurt the other party. You have the chance to justify your actions, but lying is not tolerated. We're giving you an chance to redeem yourself-- Lying will make the punishment even worse.
8. Treat the staff with the same respect you want in return, but that does not mean you shouldn't defend yourself if you feel like they are in the wrong! And by all means if you feel a staff member is undermining you (i.e. treating you like a lesser being for not being a staff member), please let another staff member know. We do not tolerate this behavior, you are just as important as any staff member here. We are no more correct than you are, and 'Because I said so'/'Because I'm a staff member' is NEVER an appropriate reason for you to do anything that they demand of you.
9. There haven't been any incidents yet, but I would prefer if players did not roleplay as copyrighted characters. This is only an argument waiting to happen, as people will argue who is the better portrayal and who is "official", etc. etc. I can't/won't stop you, I just would rather you didn't.
10. Do NOT threaten someone, harass someone, or encourage anyone to hurt themselves. It is clear what is and isn't roleplay, know your boundaries.
11. Do not act or say things that are malicious. Bigotry and disparaging remarks about anyone’s race, ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, monetary status, etc. are absolutely grounds for a permanent removal from the CS community. People of all kinds are allowed to play this game-- It's not made for any particular 'class' of person and you should not think otherwise. Respect the pronouns and personal space of every member.
Additionally, the topic of rape/speaking about rape in a joking manner are not permitted in the chat. This includes statements that compare the actions/movement of one user to anything rape-related. Purposefully manipulating your avatar in a way that is meant to be sexual on or near another player who hasn't consented is also not allowed.
12. Sending malicious links is also prohibited. If you plan on posting a link to something, and it may have inappropriate content, please make sure you address that while posting the link. Ex. " Hey, you should check out this news story! By the way, there is a picture of a dead animal on the sidebar, so don't scroll down. "
13. As I said before, the game is intended for people of all kinds, but does include and allow swearing and both natural/fantasy violence. This inclusion makes this game inappropriate for children of and under the age of 13. If you do encounter someone who is under the age of 13 that is playing the game, leave them alone. It is their business and their business only why they are here, do not scare them away in an attempt to ' protect ' them. You don't know the status of their visit. If you have any other reason to believe someone under the age of 13 is playing and is doing so maliciously, please let a staff member know.
14. Usernames / character names that break Rule 12 are prohibited. We'll ask you what you want to change it to if we find your name is causing many people to report you for it. You're welcome to put swears in your name, but if many people find it a problem we will ask you what you'd like to change it to.
15. Do not harass someone for literacy/grammar that is not up to your standard. This is a rule that I don't ever see in any roleplaying games and I believe it's especially important for this community! There are many reasons a person may type the way that they do, including but not limited to speaking a foreign language, physical impairments, dyslexia, and general "illiteracy". There is nothing wrong with not having 'perfect skill', and as you can see, even some of our staff choose to write in shorthand because it's more comfortable. No one has to be a grammar/spelling expert to play this game, and you shouldn't treat someone who cannot type legibly with disrespect. If you can't handle players who "need to learn how to speak english", then please play a different game. Incidentally we can't handle players who can't treat others with kindness.
This rule applies double for users who speak a language other than English. This game is for everyone!
16. Claiming territory/gamespace for non-social reasons (events, roleplay, etc) is prohibited. You are welcome to claim land and parts of maps for your tribe, for your personal events, and for any other social play. If part of your claiming involves 'territorial' tribes, let others approach you and inform them OOC (out of character) with the \ooc command. (ex. ooc: Hey, we are an aggressive tribe that fights outsiders who walk in our territory. If you don't want to roleplay, just let us know and we will leave you be. OR ooc: We're using this space to mourn a character's death, if you could give us space for this area we would really appreciate it.)
Giving the player an outside tip that they may roleplay with your group in your external-tribe situations is a fantastic way to have an awesome roleplay experience, and allowing you to claim territory is a cool way to give life to the landscape of CS! Please use this responsibly, use \ooc to inform others of your situation so that they may play along or refuse. Share the space and you will have a great time!
17. We can't guarantee similar consequences on any rule breaking- nor do we really want to enforce using staff powers to 'solve' problems. Most issues can be fixed by talking about it, so please give us your attention and time of day when we give it to you when we're here to help! All of our staff members are wonderful people and most of us have been rule breakers before, so we understand! If you talk to us, I guarantee we can help you!
18. If you are under 13, staff forfeit any rights to provide you with any assistance with the game. Due to COPPA law, CS does not cater to children under 13 and we request you wait until you are older to continue your service with us. Please contact a member of staff with a parent or guardian if you wish to know more.
19. You are allowed to have multiple accounts, please keep the limit to FOUR. Please know that this is a privilege and not a right- and if you seem to be misusing these accounts they will be terminated after asking you which one you would like to keep.
20. If you have reason to believe a staff member or any player for that matter is harassing you in a sexual manner, PLEASE let us know. We absolutely do not tolerate this and have no qualms against putting this person's identity to the public. Things like this can happen under our noses and it's a very sad and serious matter. We're here to protect you and get scum of that nature out of our communities. If you have been banned/account deactivated/faced consequences for this and feel the information is incorrect- please message an admin.
21. For the sake of staff and players, please do not add someone's Skype or contact someone outside of the forum on any personal accounts (Deviantart, other games, Facebook, tumblr) without getting express consent. Even if a player has posted their website or information publicly, make sure they are okay with you contacting them there or adding them as a friend. These places can be very sacred and personal to these users. Please also refrain from using these private contacts to harass/blackmail/mistreat another player. Just because it happens outside of CS doesn't mean any of us will be okay with it, and you can be punished for abusing others within these means.
22.The community and staff are not your therapists! Please do not talk at length about your mental illness, sadnesses and pains in the forums or in game. We do not want to hear about your childhood trauma, we do not want to hear at length about your depression. We aren't professionals and cannot help you there. Please keep that to private chats, and remember that this is the Internet and those kinds of things do not go away. If you threaten to kill yourself you will be ejected and banned from the game. This is not because we want you to do this, but because we cannot help you and any further conversation could imply the involvement of the game and it's users. Our job as staff is to protect everyone, and that means not taking idle threats from other users laying down.
23. Other players copying your character is not an offense on it's own. Only if used in an attempt to harass or mock you will it encroach on breaking the rules (i.e. respect rule). But another player copying your character using the in game markings and colors isn't harassment. Younger players like to mimic things they see. Take it as a compliment. If it's really worth talking about, PM the user and ask kindly that they change their looks- Perhaps offer to rp with them, maybe they could make a child character from yours! Just try to handle the situation amicably, or ignore it. Please do not harass other players who 'copied' your character.
If you have been banned/suspended for a previous rule that has been removed or received an addendum, please message a staff member so that you may be allowed to play once more.

Forum Guidelines
1. Look for threads already-made, try your hardest not to open a duplicate thread. ( But if it happens, it happens. The worst we'll do is politely remind you. ) Necro-ing ( reviving old threads ) is not against the rules here.
2. No huge and ridiculous signatures. It should not have a scrollbar, multiple animations, large crazy font, or flashing pictures. If your image happens to be a little big, you can always change the size by editing the width percentage in the BBC code. We're trusting you to know what is and isn't excessive. If you're unsure how to do this, PM a moderator.
3. You should not post or otherwise publicize ( as an icon, signature, etc. ) any offensive images. An offensive image would be something that breaks Rule #12 of the Behavioral Guidelines.
4. It would be preferable that you don't make any threads about being kicked/banned/muted, and instead message the staff, but if you feel it's necessary please go ahead. We're fine talking out consequences and explaining why things were done a certain way, we just ask that you please be civil and we'll be civil in return.
5. If a Moderator locks or closes your thread without a reason/without a valid reason, and/or does not message you about it, message a Global Moderator. If you need a thread locked/moved/deleted and/or comments from others deleted/locked/moved please PM a Moderator.
6. If you plan on writing a thread in another language, include an abbreviation. ( ex. German -> Deutsche -> DE ) Non-english language is not prohibited on this website like it normally is on others, we want you to feel the most comfortable you can while you're here! If you forget, or can't read this rule, a staff member will add the abbreviation to your thread so that you can get help quicker! If you need additional help, we do have staff members who speak fluent Spanish, German, Polish and French!
7. Threads in the help forum should be titled with your specific issue! If you forget, the staff here will change it so that it's easier for everyone to find!
10. If you're having issues with staff, and you believe it's being ignored, PLEASE message another staff member. Staff members are NOT allowed to use their powers to do whatever they want, whenever they want. If you can't sign onto the forums - send an email. If a staff member is breaking a rule that is seen in here at all, PLEASE let us know! Staff are bound to the same rules as everyone else.
11. You do NOT have to worry about staff lecturing you / moderating your posts if you necro, double-post or bump. We trust you know the limit and will recognize what is and isn't excessive. We don't have any rules against it. Staff will give a reminder, teach you how to shorten/condense your posts or make adjustments if we think something is excessive. Let another staff member know if you see this as an issue.
12. Please do not send PM's to multiple members of staff. We all communicate on a daily basis and we'll see it if we need to. If you make a post on the forums, you're guaranteed to get a better response from more than one of us if you need it.

Game Guidelines
1. Hacking/Force-glitching/Force-lagging/using Third Party Programs is a no no. We can see any internal changes you make during gameplay, and we will send you a message via your account-associated email before your suspension. Details of your use of these modifications will be requested in exchange for shorter suspension, and you have the rights to deny forfeiture of these details.
2. If you use a chat channel for the wrong purposes / see someone using the wrong channel- politely remind them, staff will do the same as well. You will not be punished for accidents.
3. Yes, it is an animal game, and animals do lots of things that can be considered inappropriate! If you insist for the sake of roleplay on doing these things, please keep it to private chats. (If your tribe allows this, tribe chat is another place you may do this.)
4. Respect the space of others if they request it- use \ooc to speak to others before proceeding with any roleplay where boundaries may be pushed.
5. Please try to talk out any issues, arguments with one another before getting a member of staff involved. You will know how to fix your issue better than any staff will. Only if blocking does not solve the problem should you contact us.
6. Staff & Developers do not hold any responsibility for you being "scammed" out of in-game currency or items by other users. If a system put in place through game code is responsible for the scamming (a game glitch has made you lose an item, money, etc.), then we do hold responsibility- please let us know if you lose an item or currency so that we can trace where it was lost to and replace it ASAP! Any admin or global mod should be able to do this for you.
7. Any questions or concerns about your premium membership and any other real world money exchanges for Cereal Soup content, please contact an Admin.
8. Global chat is the only chat channel where we can obtain logs of conversations server-side. Any other channels where you need to report a conversation must be screenshot so that we can obtain evidence of dialogue.
9. You can spam the animal noises, not the chat!
10. If you have planned a tribe on forum and see that someone has taken in it game, please message a moderator with proof of the tribe belonging to you. We respect forum preparation as "Dibs" and can discuss name changes and more with all parties involved.
