Welcome to the grand opening of the LndecLsLve Zoo - home to the avians, canines, and the leporines! Take a look around to get to know these amazing creatures and their personalities!
- The Budgerigars -
The budgerigar, also known as the common parakeet or shell parakeet and informally nicknamed the budgie, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot.
We have a total of six budgerigars at our zoo! Take a look to get to know them!
C H I P - a loyal olive budgie Chip was the first addition to our budgie flock. He was a brave, loyal, intelligent, affectionate, loving, leading, beautiful olive budgie. He didn't have a mean bone his petite little body. A playful little thing, he was. We would often play tug-of-war with a rolled up sock. Chip would ruffle his feathers and hold on to that sock like his life depended on it. When we brought home our second budgie, Taco, Chip welcomed him with a warm heart. He always made all the newcomers feel at home and always welcomed them to be a part of his family. A proud bird, he was the most mature of the others - the wisest. The other birds looked up to him - did what he did, studied and observed him. Chip will forever and always be in our hearts.
T A C O - a timid blue yellowface budgie Taco was the second addition to our flock. He was a very shy - yet outrageously noisy - timid blue yellowface budgie. He didn't trust anyone except Chip. After he was brought home he quickly befriended Chip and the two became brothers. A very noisy bird, the second noisiest bird we've had over the years, Taco was still a very good bird. When he and Chip were out of their cage, Taco would follow Chip everywhere he went. He had a big appetite, that one. He'd try to chew and eat anything he could get his claws on. Over the years he became a little less timid, allowing others to hold him and get close to him. Taco was a hilarious budgie - he always found mischief and made the funniest expressions. We'll miss you Taco.
D I P P E R - the adventurous light green budgie Dipper was the fourth addition to our flock, and the liveliest one at that. He is a very noisy, funny, curious, friendly, adventurous, affectionate light green budgie. He loves flying around, reaching high places where he knew it was a struggle for anyone else to reach him. He enjoys exploring the areas he was in, and once found himself inside the food bin, an all you can eat buffet. Dipper crawls under chairs, under stools and side tables - he loves tunnels and just about everything. He just doesn't really like people. When we brought the young Pineapple home, Dipper ran straight to her, and before we knew it he was cuddling and snuggling with her. Dipper is very affectionate towards Pineapple, but he never goes near a human.
P I N E A P P L E - the beautiful blue budgie Pineapple is the fifth addition to our flock. She is a loving, curious, comical, affectionate, intelligent, obedient blue budgie. Pineapple was the youngest budgie we had adopted, apart from Bel. When we put her into the cage with Dipper, she perched on the highest available perch in the cage by herself. Dipper, being the gentleman he is, climbed all the way up to sit next to her and introduce himself. They became quick friends and did everything together. They eat together, sleep together, explore together... They're inseparable now. Pineapple is the most tame bird we had adopted, apart from Chip. She never tries to fly away, she never bites - although she enjoys nibbling fingers every now and then - she's amazing. She loves going for walks outside and even going to the park! Pineapple is the most affectionate bird we've had. She occasionally regurgitates for me, which is a sign of affection. Whenever she's perched upon someones shoulder, she enjoys nibbling on hair strands. Pineapple loves everyone, and everyone loves her. She's an absolute joy to be around.
K I W I - the stunning rainbow spangle budgie Kiwi is the most recent addition to our flock. Kiwi is a noisy, adventurous, nosy, competent, defensive, loud, beautiful rainbow spangle budgie. She is the most unique and most stunning that we've had. Kiwi has this high pitched scream - no screech - that none of the other budgies had. It's her chirp, but it sounds like a screech. She does it all day long. It wouldn't be surprising if she deafens someone one day. Kiwi doesn't get along too well with Dipper, so she doesn't hang around him; however, she loves Pineapple like a mother. Pineapple and Kiwi spend day to day together. Kiwi is a diva and she thinks she owns the cage. She chews on everything. We had a very large bridge in the cage that was attached to two perches with a rope. Kiwi chewed straight threw the thick rope and the bridge was no longer able to be used. She chews on the cage bars, chews on carpet, cardboard, cuttlebone. Kiwi does not trust people for nothing. When a hand enters the cage, she goes ballistic - flying around screaming, meanwhile Pineapple and Dipper watch her with utter confusion. We hope to one day tame this wild diva, but until then, she sticks with Pineapple.
We have a selection of puppies ranging from toy Yorkies to massive German Shepherds! We have a total of three dogs! Take a look to get to know them!
J O E Y - the handsome German Shepherd Joey was our first ever puppy. He was a stunningly beautiful German Shepherd. Adorable in his pup years, beautiful in his adult years. Joey wasn't the best dog we had, to be honest. He was often aggressive and disobedient. He jumped up on tables while people were eating, he tried to bite feet under the trampoline, he chewed everything... Of course it was cute when he was a puppy - an immature puppy chewing on a shoe, cute - but a full grown Shepherd - not so cute. We tried obedient schools, he just didn't make a very good pet. Joey wasn't a family dog, but he made an excellent police dog. Two years after we brought Joey home, a policeman ended up adopting Joey and adding him to the K9 Unit. Hopefully he'll make a good partner, because he didn't make a great pet.
F L U F F Y - the sassy Corgi mix Fluffy was the most obedient, well behaved, affectionate dog we had ever owned. While she wasn't necessarily ours - she was our cousin's dog but we kept her for a few years while my cousin was ill - she was still a part of our family. Fluffy is believed to be a Welsh Corgi mixed with a Border Collie. Fluffy was obedient and adventurous. She would run around the neighborhood all day, but the instant you call her name, she'd come running home. Even though Fluffy was the sweetest dog, she could be extremely vicious. Fluffy was very protective of us, and she would bark and growl and pounce towards anything she thought could be a potential threat. Everybody loved Fluffy. The next door neighbor had a massive black Labrador Retriever named Bear, and Fluffy would chase him around the yard for hours. Bear, despite his massive size, was terrified of Fluffy, and she knew that. She chased him around and barked and played. A few years after we welcomed Fluffy into our family, it was time to say goodbye. She returned to our cousin, and they ended up moving quite a distance away. Fluffy will always have a special place in our hearts.
M A R L O - the energetic toy Yorkie Marlo is the most recent addition to our pack. He is a three year old vivacious toy Yorkshire Terrier who loves to play. Marlo is an amazing dog - he's obedient, he's loving, and he's never once tried to bite or acted aggressively in any way. The only problem is, he cannot be house trained. No matter what we do, he just will not go outside. While Marlo is the most intelligent dog, he still understands basic commands like stay, rollover, lie down, sit... He's so human like that sometimes I think there's a human stuck somewhere in there. Marlo hates it when someone touches his paws. Any paw, he goes ballistic when you touch his paw. He's also a sock thief. If he can get his paws on a sock, he steals and hides every sock he finds. He's never tired, he's always up for walks and tug-of-war. Marlo is the most energetic dog we've ever had. He's so affectionate and loving.
We have a selection of bunnies ranging from six inch cuties to foot long giants. We have a total of two bunnies. Take a look to get to know them!
T H U M P E R - the adventurous baby bunny Thumper was never really a pet of ours, more like a temporary house guest. We were coming home one day and we opened the garage to find a baby bunny right under the garage door. How it got in our garage still remains a mystery to us. The baby bunny couldn't have been any bigger than our hands. It took us a few minutes to catch him. We managed to carefully pick him up when he got stuck behind a bag in the corner of the garage. He settled down once he was in my hands. We decided to take him upstairs to see if he would eat something before we set him loose. We plugged the drain in the bathtub and set a small bowl of cold water in the tub, then set Thumper in the tub. Once his tiny paws touched the tub, he went ballistic. He ran left and right so fast my eyes could barely keep up with him. Eventually he tired down and relaxed a bit. First we tried feeding him some grass, I grabbed a few blades of grass and headed back into the bathroom. I set them down in a pile near the food bowl. We observed for about ten minutes, but he didn't eat or drink. Second I tried giving him some rabbit food but only after I crushed the pellets up a bit. He went over to the pellets and sniffed around, but he didn't eat anything. We waited for twenty minutes before giving up. My sister and I took the bunny out in the backyard and set him down gently. There are woods behind our house, so we guessed that might be where he came from. He sat still for a moment, then took off into the woods. He was absolutely adorable and I'm glad I got a chance to see a baby bunny. Hopefully he managed to eat and hopefully he's running around with some girl!
P I K A C H U - the giant spotted bunny I didn't know much about Pikachu when I adopted her. It's a weird story, actually: I got my first ever pet bunny on my twelfth birthday. Its name was Spot. I had Spot for a few hours before I returned him back to the pet store. Spot was psychotic, ballistic, aggressive. So, I just took him back and was hoping to find another bunny to exchange. I didn't really see anymore that I liked. Just as I was about to give up hope, this lady walks over to me and says, "Do you want a free bunny?" I'm thinking to myself, "Whoa, okay, weird. Is this lady trying to do something or something?" I looked at my grandma, who shrugged at me. The lady must've seen our 'confusion' and she continued. "My son has a beautiful rabbit named Pikachu, but he's going to college and he can't take her with him. She's potty trained - I mean, she only uses the bathroom in her cage. She's tame, and she's the sweetest bunny in the world." After she took out her phone and showed us pictures. When she showed me the pictures, my eyes widened in disbelief. I'd never seen such a large bunny. But anyway, she gave us her number and address and the next day my grandma and I were at her house adopting a bunny. It was a white bunny with a few brown spots on her rump. She was almost a foot long! The lady said that Pikachu was a girl, she's middle aged, and she said she thought she was half Flemish Giant or something ((but I'm pretty sure she was a large English Spot)). I tried renaming the bunny, but I couldn't. It felt weird renaming something that already had a name, therefore I just kept the name. So, that's how I ended up with Pikachu - the best rabbit in the world. Pikachu was the most tame bunny I'd ever seen. She actually came when you called her name or when you patted the floor. She gave lots of licks and kisses. One of the best parts was that she only used the restroom in her cage. Because she was so big, I actually ended up using Joey's old dog cage. Pikachu had an adorable double chin, it was so cute. She was animal friendly, and she made a great companion for Marlo. Marlo always loved playing with her. They'd cuddle together, too. Poor Marlo was half the size of Pikachu. When I sat on the couch, I'd pat the couch and Pikachu would hop up and cuddle with me. She made an amazing companion... Unfortunately, Pikachu was pretty old when I adopted her. I had three great years with her before she passed away from old age. She'll always have a special place in our family.
