I am in dire need of dinosaur content and so I must know about everyone's favorite prehistoric beast It doesn't have to be a dinosaur, the qualifications are that it lived in the mesozoic, though. You like pterosaurs? long-necked underwater reptiles little tree mammals i don't care. Come here to gush.
Anyways, one of my favorites is Murusraptor and I only found out about it recently. Its name means "wall theif" or "thief from the wall", because it was discovered in a canyon wall in Argentina. Also, it's a Megaraptor, which is like a normal raptor but bigger and more badass, I don't know. (they're not actually really closely related to real raptor families I think. Apparently they're more like allosauroids.) Regardless, it kicks ass. It was also aerated like birds.
Also the specimen they had discovered was DISEASED AS FUCK. It had signs of infection on its skull and ribs, (deformation) and evidence of a bite from another theropod, where the infection must have come from. Though, it isn't clear if that was what killed it. Probably, though.
I particularly like this restoration because it's all black and that just makes it 100 times better. Though, it probably had more feathers. I tend to gravitate more towards the raptorlike dinosaurs anyways, but I also enjoy SAUROPODS
Obviously I prefer the bigger and taller ones but all saurpods are just god-tier animals in general.
I'm sorry but look at this xenoblade chronicles final fantasy shit. The mesozoic had by far the best creatures IMO.
To be very honest, I know little about Dinosaurs or their anatomy, HOWEVER, when I was younger, I really had a liking for the Kentrosaurus(?). Ever since I was in my school's library years ago, I was obsessed with those cool spikes (especially that crazy shoulder spike)

spinosaurus has always been one of my favorites bc theres so much mystery around it but i have a good idea on how it might have looked and its basically just equated to a giant duck
people often depict spino as being totally land which is wrong, bc its diet and build was for eating fish, and it had spent a lot of time in the water. it most likely had webbed feet and hands.
it's only been confirmed to have feathers, but not nearly as much feathers as any tyranno
my favorite has always been the lovely Archaeopteryx !
I don't know much about dinosaurs, science... so i'm not going to lie on knowledges on them I loveee dinosaurs aswell. And I also love any kind of raptors *^*

nao Some people believe Carnotaurus wasn't feathered, but the likelihood of it being completely feathered is in its DNA
Tyrannosaurs and raptors were close cousin species which showed they were feathered even before we found feather imprints on the t rex and the entire fossilized tail feathers of a raptor
Carnotaurus is part of the family Ceratosaur, Ceratosaur are Averostra, which makes them related to Dilophosaurids. If you know anything about Dilos they have feathers (as well as silly crests but that's not the point lol).
If this isn't a close enough approximation for you, there's another family that exists in Averostra directly called Tetanurae which not only includes out tyrannousaurs, or gallimimus and archeopteryxs, but also Avians in general.
Skin impressions think that carnotaurus was mainly scaled, but this post from one of my favorite paleo blogs shows a good example of where carnotaurus might have feathers.
So he might not have little wings but he probably had a tail fan and a back full of fluff
If he didn't have any strong spined feathers (more like down) it's also possible they just plain wouldn't be seen in imprints. Carnotaurus could have been really hairy too
I adore all raptors and all the tiny dinos that just skitter around causing trouble, but my all time favorites are the precursors to birds that back then you would have seen gliding around in forests snatching bugs out of the air and zipping around climbing trees etc.
But if you really want to go into my favorite of all ancient stuffs I absolutely love ancient mammals and megafauna. Entelodonts and Daeodons!
Hyaenodon!
Andrewsaurus!
and the list just goes on and on lots of them look really funky and cool Sabers, Dire wolves, Dire Bears, Cave bears, Cave lions, Giant sloths, Titanaboa, Terror bird, Megalania...
I'm not certain why, but I have always had a very strong interest in small carnivorous dinosaurs.
The Adasaurus, for example, is probably one of my favorites for the reasons stated. It was only around 5 feet long, and was presumed to be a scavenger and a hunter.
They were so small and precious. If I were to bring them back to life, I'd keep one as a housepet.
*internal squeeing*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am also very fond of sea reptiles like Tylosaurus. The Tylosaurus is probably my favorite sea reptile due to its sheer size and power, unlike Adasaurus. who was just small and adorable.
I would NOT want to get ripped to shreds by this guy...
how have you not talked about PLATYBELODON the big boy is one of my favorites he needs love look at him....he is grace
haha such a weirdo am i right guys i relate to it though
these things lived around africa, asia, europe and north america, during the miocene which was like between 15 million and 4 million yrs ago it's name means flat-tusk imo very fitting ppl think they used their tusks to shovel up vegetation in swamps, strip bark from trees and or dig for water
when it comes to dinos though uhhhhh i LOVE the dakotaraptor?? its just hella cool and was actually the size of a person so..very rad
ok so this guy was discovered in 2005 but apparently it wasn't given a name until 2015 rip name means plunderer of dakota and ofc it lived in north america, in the late cretaceous it's one of the largest raptors known so far. sp00ky
the amargasaurus it was fuckin awesome yikes
it was 3 car lengths long weighed as much as 2 white rhinoceros lived to be 100 years old..so cool.. literally could run as fast as a rhino it lived in south america, around 130 million years ago in the early cretaceous name means "la amarga lizard" bc it was discovered in "la amarga arroyo" (la amarga creek) in argentina. "la amarga" would mean something like bitter/the bitter. i'm spanish myself and i can't even translate this lmao. but basically "bitter creek lizard"
spiky giraffe
tanystropheus ((it's an archosaur which i believe is also basically a dino bc they're related to crocs n birds, in the group protosauria)) but uh N E C K
ok so this guy was thought to be a pterosaur first?? but turns out nah he wasn't he was just rlly weird it was 6 metres long (20 ft) and was from the middle triassic. its neck was 3 metres long (10 ft) which was...longer than it's tail and body combined. it was just. neck it was thought to live in europe, middle east and china name means long vertebra ofc
i love long neck lizard
it's closest ""relatives"" were also weird af...take a look at the drepanosaurus what even is this
or the sharovipteryx
what
the yi'qi was kinda interesting too it had bat-like wings a good boy
was in china in the late jurassic, 160 million yrs ago name means strange wing?? i think it ate bugs and nasty things
gotta love ""new"" dimetrodon too i'm too lazy to add info on it rn though
i'm in love with it's new representation honestly same with spino's it's just a hella big duck it's great and these animals sure are coming a long way man
fyi that representation of an andrewsarchus is actually not very accurate! in fact the guy was more related to animals like the entelodont (that at the same time wasn't related to boars at all lmao) or whales instead of felines or canines so it'd be something more like this:
I really love Velociraptors. I know they're a pretty common dinosaur to think about, and are a lot of people's favorites, but man I just love them. I have an affiliation with all raptors, though, especially Micros and Utahs. They're one reason why I'm so excited for the Raptors in-game; I'm totally making a dino baby ❤
I also love Tyrannosaurus Rex -- another common dino that comes to people's minds, but hey, I've always had a soft spot for them.
One of my favorite aquatic dinosaurs, however, would have to be Plesiosaurs. I haven't met many people who like them, so they're definitely on my list of top ten. I do, however, adore Mosasaurs. Megalodon is also a close favorite; though I've always loved sharks, so that really isn't any surprise. One thing that bugged me from Jurassic World was how big they made the Mosasaur, but honestly, it looked awesome and gave me chills, so I can let that slide.
This is going to sound very odd, but I have a favorite herbivore/insectivore that's certainly one of the more "laughed at" dinos -- Gallimimus. Yes, you heard me right. I love Gallies with all my heart. They are such adorable little loudmouths on sticks for legs. I mean really; have you SEEN how long their legs are? Perfection!
You're probably wondering, "Ori, do you have any other favorite herbivores other than the weird leg things?" Yes, I do. While Triceratops and Pachycephalosaurus come to mind, I really love the Psittacosaurus. They're just so small, and I LOVE them!
Honorable mentions:
Pachycephalosaurus
Triceratops
20 / she/her / dinosaur, fossil & prehistoric life nerd / probably a dinosaur in past life in-game user: CrazyDinoLady
Though I also love Pterosaurs/Pterodactyls, though theyre not really dinosaurs. Fire Rodan is the one who got me into them, though he's a mythical kaiju he's still a badass one.
Helicoprion is like, the doofiest fucking shark dino i've ever seen and i love it forever. people still dont know its jaw shape or how it ATE.
stethacanthus is like super tiny and like, has an anvil dorsal fin. someone grab transparent images of a hammerhead and this shark and smash them together like a blacksmith hammering something on an anvil
i like sharks but i mean
im trying to find this one "water scorpion" looking ancient crustacean. i dont know its NAME and im dying.
eurypterids? i don't exactly know which you're trying to look for bc there are tons and i don't know the exact names of each of 'em but i'm p sure it's this guy
that is a really good guess. what i do remember is that it may have lived in fresh water and was as long as a grown man was tall (i think, maybe bigger). that fossil seems pretty close to what i can foggily remember. maybe i'll dig into my book stash and find 'em later.
