Questions about Occults

Wasn't sure which forum to put this in, so please feel free to move if this is the wrong place. ^^;;
But basically I kinda needed some information for my writing contest entry, which lead me to asking these questions. Also really sorry if a lot of these are super simple things, I tend to over-think things.
1) Basically, what entails when an animal uses their occult exactly? Is it something similar to Avatar the Last Airbender where they could generate a flame with their paws (or some other part of their body) or use a nearby campfire/torch/other source of fire and manipulate it?
2) By realizing "[their] own true potential" does that mean an animal awakens their occult through spiritual means (i.e. meditation, becoming awake in the philosophical sense, self-reform, etc.) or can it also be something like the X-men mutants where, sometimes, the animal's occult is awakened through adrenaline-fueled, extremely dire situations?
3) What's the extent of the nature occult, like does nature entail only plants/other fauna or is the earth also a controllable element to the nature occult, etc.? Could a water occult potentially manipulate the water inside another animal's body, if they wanted to (something akin to blood-bending in Avatar the Last Airbender)?
4) Lastly, is it same to assume that the water, fire, and nature occults work like a Pokemon typing triad i.e. water beats fire, fire beats nature, and nature beats water? Or is there lee-way room for one type of occult gaining the upperhand on the other somehow?
Again, really sorry for the possible self-explanatory questions.
