yes- you do need to pay for it, but not to upload it
rather you need premium in order to have a preset!
premium costs around $20 US dollars,
it comes with a preset slot as well as a few other perks to it
able to make a tribe,
colored text,
access to all future species,
golden seeky,
future exclusive items,
and slowly more will be added on!

you can only upload it to the game by purchasing, winning a preset slot or winning premium
we hold occasional contests that hold preset slots, and premium as the prize if unable to pay
-otherwise won't be able to have it in-game at all
