here and here is info on what presets actually are!
make sure to check out altias' quick preset and marking how-to before looking through this one!
this guide goes more in depth into making presets specifically! basics of emission maps, etc! might be confusing for starters, but i will try to be as thorough as possible.
more will be added in the future, as this thread is somewhat of a wip for now! as time progresses, people provide more resources, and possible features are added, this will be updated with new info.
you will need to know the basics of the customizer, and how the art program you are using works. please keep in mind i cannot help you with the basics of what program you have, if you are using any other one besides sai or firealpaca, since those are the only two that ive used. look up tutorials on google or youtube!
if you feel like this thread doesnt cover everything, feel free to comment on it, and ill add more info in! or if something is confusing, ill do my best to clear it up. others feel free to help as well!
BEGINNER, GETTING STARTED ;
the very basics of preset making!
once youve installed the customizer, locate the resources folder. it should look somewhat like this, the first path depending on where you installed it
open up the folder named after whatever animal it is that you want to make a preset for, and open the textures and uv in your drawing program.
use the selection tool on the whole canvas, and copy and paste the uv onto the texture. this way, you get 2 layers, the other one being the texture and the one on top, the uv.
make another layer, and move it to the bottom of the texture and uv. this is where your colors will go. you can also have multiple layers of color, just make sure you know what youre doing.
then, set both the texture and uv layer modes to multiply. the option to do this is usually on the top of the layer section, as shown in the screenshot below.
color to your hearts content on the bottom layer(s)!
make sure to delete or hide the uv layer once youre done.

EMISSION MAPS ;
want a glowing preset? got it!
Q. what are emission maps?
A. emission maps are "overlays" on your preset, that make it all glowy and fancy! theyre often used to make only parts of the preset glow, not the whole preset.
once youve finished the texture you want to glow (for example you want certain markings on the body to glow), you open up another canvas that is the same size as the former, and make the background completely black. keep in mind, the black doesnt show on the preset at all! so sadly you cannot make black glowing markings using emission maps.
next, you color in the markings you want to glow, in the color you want them to glow in. for example if you want it to glow blue, color it blue! you can also make multiple layers, and blur the second layer a bit, to make it look extra glowy! experiment to your hearts content, but keep in mind the background has to be black, that is really the only important thing about emission maps.
to add in an emission map on your preset, you go to the customizer, put the normal texture link where it says "main texture", and emission map where it says "emission map" in the lower right corner. the emission map goes only for the assigned texture, so say if you add in the body texture, and then the emission map in the same go, the emission map would go on the body.
eyes do not need emission maps, as they glow in the dark by default.
here is viili without an emission map, and with one! i only colored in the bright blue markings, nose, and pawpads, the rest of the background is black.
quick tip : to make it night in the customizer, press the sun looking icon on the top left!
