Unrealistic Components & Limitations

Okay excuse my dumbass title I couldn't think of any other way to put this.
But BASICALLY, each species is going to have both realistic and unrealistic qualities- but of course there are limitations to make sure that each species is also still unique from the others- for example
☆ Animals that don't come with wings- won't have them (atleast non-functioning ones if they do)
☆ No animal that doesn't already swim underwater can swim underwater
☆ You won't be able to turn one species into another (Making a skinny long legged big eared canis != serval, nor would the ears be "serval-like" at all)
But at the same time, it's super neat to mix up certain components- and that's where I'm stuck.
I would love to include things like horns & fangs, and other weird parts to any species, but it's hard to know exactly how far that should go and where the line should be drawn.
For example, suricate with horns would be awesome! But if another species comes out and one of it's primary traits is having unique horns- then the suricate horns shouldn't be in more quantity/extravagance as the horned species.
I guess what I'm looking for are, what kinds of unrealistic traits would you like to see on raptors/suricate/canis/felis? What do you think is too much, what do you think is too little? Would you like to be able to make mythical creatures like a manticore or chimera out of a felis? If you can explain your thoughts I would love to hear it.
