Not necessarily, see when animals are young, they require multitudes of fatty nutrients in order for their bodies to grow and change. So having fat youngsters in the animal kingdom is a major upside.

fat for babes = larger energy stores or their growing bodies to use for health purposes, it will be burned off by growing.

young animals are all very chubby, just like how human babies are chubby and have the typical rounded/distended bellies. Young animals double their size in a matter of months and days and need to hold onto fat stores to power those changes. Also mammal milk is extremely fattening to help do this

(baby birds don't really get fat but they have a storage of food called the crop on their neck that is typically pretty large)

You can also actually get a fatter baby if your adult character is fatter too.

For example, I have a character who was malnourished as a puppy and it doesn't really make sense for her to be chubby. X3
